Tips for purchasing perfect major appliances for your needs
Wayne always brings in only the best, so buyers can take comfort in that they will be presented with quality options. In order to keep overhead as low as absolutely possible, however, the buying process is a bit different than at major box stores.
Wayman always has dedicated and knowledgeable staff on hand, but in order to get the most out of your purchase it’s advisable to do some research ahead of time. That’s why Wayne has provided his “hot tip” for this month. Those in the market for major appliances at liquidation centre prices should do a little bit of homework before arriving.
Assess your needs
For each appliance, whether it be a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, or washer and dryer, create a list of your absolute “must haves,” plus another one for your “nice-to-haves.” This exercise is a pain-free way to do some investigation and help you remember what is actually important to you and your family.
For example, your “must haves” for a refrigerator could be an ice-making machine and water dispenser, while your “nice-to-have” could be a smart fridge with the ability to connect with the internet and even tell you when certain foods need to be replenished. For your stove, a “must have” could be the ability to connect to WiFi so you can start dinner from anywhere, and a “nice-to-have” might be a built-in air fryer.
Set your budget
This may go without saying, but before shopping for major appliances at Wayman (or anywhere), you should have a very good idea of what you are willing to spend. Setting a range can be helpful, with a low end and a high end, and do some research (again) so you know what features are generally available at one price point versus the other. Then, be amazed at what Wayman will be able to offer.
Measure once. Then measure again. Then measure one more time
Measuring could be the most important part of shopping for a major appliance. Some buyers assume that all fridges, stoves, dishwashers, and washers and dryers come in standard sizes, but this is not the case. For example, a fridge’s width can range from 30 to 36 inches, and washers and dryers can be from 27 to 28 inches wide, or even larger.
Also, pay close attention to the height and the depth of the space you have available.
Make sure to also measure the doorways and hallways the new appliance will need to travel through to get to its new home. The worst feeling is to have your new washer and dryer delivered, only to find they won’t be able to fit through the laundry room door.
Don’t forget the doors
Especially pertaining to refrigerators, it is very important to know which way you want the door (or doors) to open. You don’t want to buy your dream fridge, then bring it home to find out opening the door will then block you from putting things down on the counter … until you close it. This can be unbelievably frustrating on grocery day.
Front-loading washers and dryers can also cause a problem this way. Again, make sure you know which way the doors should open, or inquire as to whether the doors can be reversed. Dryer doors can often be changed, however washer doors often can’t.
Looks aren’t everything
One of the reasons Wayman is able to offer such amazing deals on major appliances is that they may come with (very) minor scratches and dings. More often than not, these will be hidden once the appliance has been installed. Do not let such a small detail preclude you from taking advantage of an incredible deal.
What else do you need?
To help keep costs down, consider what else is needed with each major appliance installation you plan. For example, a new dryer will most likely require a new dryer venting hose. If you would like to stack your washer and dryer vertically, you need a stacking kit. If your new refrigerator has an ice-making machine and your old one didn’t, you may need to extend your plumbing so it can be connected to a water supply. If this is the case, a good tip is to consult someone with plumbing expertise beforehand to see if it’s even possible. In some older kitchens the placement for the fridge is so far away from the sink or dishwasher that it’s cost-prohibitive to consider installing more pipe.
Having everything on hand keeps the length of visits from installers at a minimum and also lowers overall exasperation levels exponentially.
What about warranties?
Some of the major appliances coming to Wayman will have their own manufacturer’s warranty, which is then up to the buyer to understand and adhere to. We recommend reading the warranty policy closely, registering your purchase online with the company if necessary, and filing it and your receipt where you will be able to find it (and make sure to keep them as long as the warranty lasts). A good idea is to mark the end of the warranty in your calendar so that you don’t forget and so you can get any necessary repairs made before the warranty has expired.
